How to Smoke a Pork Shoulder with Willboy's Barbecue Sauce
Nothing says authentic barbecue like a perfectly smoked pork shoulder. With a little patience and the right seasoning, you can create tender, juicy pulled pork that's packed with bold flavor. Whether you're cooking for family, friends, or a backyard gathering, Willboy's Barbecue Sauce helps take your pork shoulder to the next level.
Choosing the Right Pork Shoulder
Look for a bone-in pork shoulder, also known as a Boston butt, weighing between 6 and 10 pounds. The marbling throughout the meat keeps it moist during the long smoking process, resulting in flavorful, pull-apart pork.
Season the Pork
Coat the pork shoulder with a light layer of mustard or cooking oil to help the seasoning stick. Generously apply Willboy's BBQ Dry Rub, making sure every side is evenly covered. Let the pork rest for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight for even deeper flavor.
Smoke Low and Slow
Preheat your smoker to 225–250°F using your favorite hardwood, such as hickory, apple, or cherry. I like Oak.
Place the pork shoulder on the smoker with the fat cap facing up. Smoke until the internal temperature reaches approximately 165°F, then wrap it in butcher paper or aluminum foil to help retain moisture and continue cooking.
Continue smoking until the internal temperature reaches 195–205°F. At this point, the meat should be tender enough to pull apart easily.
Add the Flavor
After shredding the pork, mix in your favorite Willboy's Barbecue Sauce to add rich, balanced barbecue flavor.
Choose the sauce that fits your taste:
-
Original BBQ Sauce for classic smoky barbecue flavor.
-
Sweet Honey BBQ Sauce for a sweet, sticky finish that's perfect for sandwiches.
-
Hot & Spicy BBQ Sauce for bold heat with every bite.
Mix lightly so every strand of pulled pork is coated without becoming overly saucy.
